CHICAGO (WLS) -- The deadline to get health care coverage that starts February 1 under the Affordable Care Act is next Friday, January 15, and there's a new push to spread the word within the LGBT community.
Health officials say the percentage of those adults without health insurance has decreased since the Affordable Care Act took effect, but significant numbers of LGBT adults are still uninsured and they could face some serious consequences if they don't sign up.
"No matter who you are, you could lose everything. Catastrophic health destroys whole families," said U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Chicago.
Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act's health insurance is scheduled to end nationwide on January 31.
