CHICAGO (WLS) -- The nation's airlines are improving their on-time performance a bit, but consumer complaints have risen over the same period.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says overall, airlines in this country are on time 81.8 percent of the time. That's up from about 79 percent last year.

Consumer complaints jumped 31 percent over last year.

Frontier Airlines showed the highest rate of complaints. Southwest Airlines had the fewest.
