Chicago shootings: 21 shot, 4 killed in weekend gun violence across city, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Twenty one people were shot, four fatally, in weekend gun violence across Chicago, police said.



A child was among three people killed in a South Side shooting on Sunday night, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened during an altercation at West Chatham home in the 8000 block of South Vincennes Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. Four people were shot.

A child and two adults died from their injuries, and a fourth person is in stable condition, police said.

ABC7 cameras were on the scene as police were focusing their investigation inside of a two-story home.

During a press conference, police said they are looking for two people in connection with the shooting and asked anyone with information to contact them.



Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.

A 19-year-old woman was killed and three others were injured in a shooting at a North Side park on Sunday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened at Pottawattomie Park in the 7300 block of North Rogers Avenue just after 3:30 p.m.

Two men and two women were standing in the park when two people walked in, took out guns and fired shots at the group, police said.



The 19-year-old woman, shot in her chest, was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead.

Another woman, 22 years old, was shot in her foot. She was transported to Swedish Hospital in good condition.

A 20-year-old man, shot in his forehead, was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in good condition.

Another man, 19 years old, was shot in his hip. He was taken Saint Francis Hospital in good condition.

Police said one of the victims ran to the nearby fire house before they were taken to a local hospital.



The suspects fled northbound on Winchester Avenue on foot.

No one is in custody and Area Three detectives are investigating.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.

Hours later, a man was shot inside a moving vehicle in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood on Sunday evening, police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the 1400 block of North Clark Street near Burton Place just before 6 p.m.



A 35-year-old man was in a vehicle, traveling northbound on Clark Street, police said. That's when someone inside a dark-colored vehicle, which was also headed northbound on Clark, fired shots.

Police said the victim, shot in his chest and grazed in his head, was transported to Northwestern Hospital in serious condition.

The vehicle that the suspect was in fled northbound on Clark.

There is no one in custody and Area Three detectives are investigating.

On Sunday morning, teenager was found shot inside a downtown hotel room.

A 17-year-old boy was found at about 1:14 a.m. on the 18th floor of the Homewood Suites Hotel, located at 40 E. Grand Ave. in River North, according to Chicago police.

He had a gunshot wound in the abdomen, police said he was in critical condition.

Police added that the teen refused to answer questions.

On Saturday morning, an offender was shot by a CCL holder during a robbery attempt Saturday morning at a downtown Chicago jewelry store.

The attempted robbery and shooting happened just before 11 a.m. in the 0-100 block of North Wabash Avenue in the Loop, Chicago police said.

The offender entered a business at that location and unsuccessfully attempted to take property, police said. Another person with a FOID card and a Concealed-Carry License drew their firearm and shot the offender.

The attempted robbery suspect fled the scene, but was located by police nearby and arrested. They were taken to a hospital where they were initially reported to be stable with a gunshot wound, police said.

Police continue to investigate. Charges were pending.

On Friday night, a woman was hit by gunfire while standing inside a home on Chicago's South Side.

Chicago police said that at about 10:15 p.m., shots were fired from outside a house in the 9100 block of South Loomis Street in the Brainerd neighborhood.

Bullets pierced through a window hitting a 37-year-old woman inside, according to police.

She was struck in the leg and was transported to Little Company of Mary where she was last listed in good condition, police said.

It is not clear if the woman was the intended target. No one in custody.
