Award-winning Women's Barbershop Chorus Celebrates 25 years with special concert Music, much like a friendship, can inspire and enrich us. Music and friendship brought together the Misty River Music Makers and kept them together for 25 years. Fox Valley's Misty River Music Makers is a women's barbershop-style chorus; it consists of 20 women, ranging in age from the late 20's to early 70's. The women sing everything from pop to patriotic, old-fashioned Barbershop to the Beatles, as well as seasonal selections -- all in a cappella four-part harmony. "This four-part harmony music is so unique that when people hear us, they can't believe the voices create such a sound," says Misty River Music Makers President Donna Pelletier, who has been with the chorus for 24 years. She adds that the camaraderie of women sharing a love of singing makes performing much more enjoyable.

After eight years of performing exclusively at invitation-only events, the Misty River Music Makers will celebrate 25 years of sharing their love of singing with the Fox Valley Community with their presentation "We Have a Song to Sing!" The one-time-only performance will feature musical guest quartets The Karamels and U4X on Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive in Geneva. Price of admission is $12 for adults and $5 for students. Group rates are available.

The award-winning Misty River Music Makers competes annually with other women's choruses through Harmony Inc., an international organization for women's barbershop choruses and quartets. With 1,200 members, Harmony Inc. celebrates its 50th anniversary in conjunction with Misty River Music Makers 25th year during 2009.

The Misty River Music Makers group earned 12th place among the hundreds of competitors and was honored with the Tait Trophy for "Most-Improved Small Chorus" at last November's Harmony Inc. International Quartet and Chorus Convention and Competition. This weekend's guest quartet U4X is the reigning International Quartet Champions and The Karamels are 2008 International finalists.
