World Cup Soccer Preview

June 8, 2010 -South Africa is the first African nation to host the world's premier team competition

-32 teams will compete in 64 games

* The role that former South African President Nelson Mandela played to bring the World Cup to South Africa

-Mandela, 91, who rarely makes public appearances is expected to attend the opening match

Chicago's plans for live screening of World Cup in Daley Plaza on Friday, June 11.

* The opening game, South Africa vs Mexico, will be broadcast live Friday in Daley Plaza at 9am CT followed by France vs Uruguay at 1:30pm CT

* USA vs England will be broadcast NEXT DAY, Saturday in Montrose Park at 1:30pm CT following Argentina vs. Nigeria at 9am CT.

* The World Cup final, July 11, will be screened live at Soldier Field following the final Chicago Soccer tournament, courtesy of the South African Consulate General in partnership with Ethnicity Soccer
