FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (AP) - Being out of uniform is creating problems for an Arkansas jail guard. Jessie Lunderby posed nude for Playboy.com. Now, the 21-year-old has been suspended by the Washington County sheriff's office. A spokeswoman for the department says Lunderby has been put on administrative leave with pay. Officials are investigating if the nude photo spread violates department policy. The sheriff's office has rules concerning sexual conduct and conduct unbecoming an officer. Lunderby says she has no regrets about posing for Playboy's website.
CAPITOL DOME-REPAINTING
WASHINGTON (AP) - There's a cover-up on Capitol Hill. You might even call it a
whitewash. But this has nothing to do with politics. The dome of the U.S.
Capitol is getting a paint job. A fresh coat of white paint will help protect
the cast-iron structure. The Architect of the Capitol says the project is
expected to take five months. During the job, workers will be standing on
scaffolding and hanging platforms. It's been 50 years since the dome had a major
renovation. It was last painted in 2002.
ZOO BABIES NAMED
NEW YORK (AP) - Meet Tira and Misu. They're not dessert,
but a treat for visitors at New York's Prospect Park Zoo. The baby tamarin
monkeys were born in April. Zoo visitors helped to choose their
names. Zoo officials say the new names are fitting for the sweet little
creatures. Zoo keepers don't know yet if the twins are boys or girls, or one of
each. Tira and Misu's parents are Napoleon and Cannoli. Right now the little
monkeys are 6 inches long. They can grow up to 9 inches, with a foot-long tail.
FLOATER FUGITIVE LITTLE
ORLEANS, Md. (AP) - He didn't escape -- but floated away. At least for a while.
Authorities in Maryland and West Virginia launched a search over the weekend for
a missing tuber. Bruce Carney was reported missing by his friends, when they
became separated while floating down the Potomac River in inner tubes. Sheriff's
deputies in Morgan County, West Virginia, found him early Sunday. He was turned
over to authorities in Maryland and promptly charged with violating probation.
ROLLER COASTER CONVENTION
PITTSBURGH (AP) - It's a convention with plenty of ups and downs. More than 400
roller coaster lovers are in Pittsburgh for the annual meeting of American
Coaster Enthusiasts or ACE. The steel city is noted for its wooden roller
coasters. Three of the oldest wooden coasters in the world are in the Pittsburgh
area. The convention will be centered at the Kennywood amusement park. ACE
spokesman John Gerard says the best part of coaster conventions is getting to
"ride until you are fried."
BIG ROCK PRIZE
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (AP) - It's the big one that got away -- the big money
fishing prize. Fisherman Andy Thomossan could be out more than 900-grand in
prize money in the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in North Carolina. The Daily
News of Jacksonville reports Thomossan caught a record-setting marlin that
weighed nearly 900 pounds. But a member of his boat crew didn't have a required
state fishing license. So, as Thomossan puts it: "No record. No money. No fish.
No nothing." A 10-day nonresident license costs just 10 bucks. Tournament
officials say prize money won't be awarded until their investigation is
completed.
