LEED-certified elementary school opens on Northwest Side

Chicago's newest "green school" is officially open.

The Federico Garcia Lorca Elementary School, 3231 N. Springfield, is the new school for 900 kindergarten through eighth grade students.

Mayor Daley and Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman were on hand for Friday's dedication.

The school has a 50-percent green roof and achieved LEED school certification.
