An old bridge over the Illinois River near Seneca went out with a bang Thursday morning.

Seventh grader Jacob Weinrich won the honor of triggering the blast on the steel bridge that once was Highway 170. He won a $2 ticket raffle sponsored by the Seneca Historical Guild.

Weinrich had one word for the blast: "Awesome!"

A new $24 million replacement bridge was opened to traffic two weeks ago.
