Holiday Craft Projects

Projects don't have to be difficult or expensive, according to craft expert Jo Person of Michaels, michaels.com. She shares the directions for three easy and fun holiday projects.

LARGE GLITTER PEOPLE

    What you'll need:
  • Flora Craft Styrofoam Balls 2 1/2"
  • Creatology Chenille Stems - Red and White
  • The Kunin Group Felt - Assorted Colors
  • Wooden Bead
  • Creatology 1/4 " Pom Poms - White
  • Sharpie Marker - Black
  • Assorted Ribbon Trims
  • Assorted Glitter Colors
  • Wire Styrofoam Cutter (Optional)
  • Sharp Knife
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Craft Glue
  • Paper Towels
  • Paper Plate
  • Low Heat Glue Gun

Instructions:

Step 1 If using Styrofoam cutter, follow directions on package and cut balls in half, or carefully cut in half with sharp knife.

Step 2 Cover half balls with glue and sprinkle on glitter, saving excess for another project. Let dry.

Step 3 Twist red and white chenille stems together to form legs and arms. Carefully push into ball as shown.

Step 4 Cut mittens from felt, glue onto ends of arms sandwiching chenille stems in between.

Step 5 Cut hat from felt, shape into cone and secure with glue.

Step 6 Glue wooden ball to top of ball. Let dry.

Step 7 Add hat to ball and top off with pom pom.

Step 8 Cut 4" by 1/2" piece of felt for scarf, wrap around neckline as shown securing with glue.

DECORATIVE CHARGER PLATES

    What you'll need:
  • Charger plate
  • Scrapbook paper of choice
  • Sticker embellishments
  • Mod Podge
  • Copies of photos
  • Gold glitter glue
  • Foam brush
  • Pattern from Michaels.com

Steps:

1. Cut one style of scrapbook paper into a circle to fit inside the charger plate. Use Mod Podge to attach the paper to the plate, coating both sides of the paper.

2. Print, trace and cut out wings from the pattern. Use Mod Podge to adhere charger.

3. Cut image in photo as desired. Lay over scrapbook paper with another coat of Mod Podge.

4. Add sticker embellishments as desired.

5. Outline as desired with glitter glue.

SNOW GLOBES

    What you need:
  • Glass Jar With Lid of Choice
  • Focal Piece - Resin, Plastic, Glass, Etc
  • Envirotex Lite
  • Diamond Dust
  • Glitter
  • Household All Purpose Adhesive and Sealant
  • Wooden Doll Head
  • Mod Podge
  • Glycerin (optional)
  • Water
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper Towels
  • Paper Plate
    For Glitter Penguin:
  • Wood Block
  • Chenille Stems
    For Feather Penguin:
  • Candle Stand
  • Feather Boa - Black
    For Santa:
  • Snowtex
  • Clay Pot Bottom

Instructions:

Step 1. Choose a jar that your finished piece will safely fit into.

Step 2. Glue your piece to the inside lid of the jar. Let dry thoroughly.

Step 3. Follow directions on the Envirotex Lite and using a paintbrush, coat your piece making sure you have it completely sealed. Set aside and let dry.

Step 4. Fill the jar with water, add 1/2 tsp. of Diamond Dust (adjust the amount of glitter to the size of your jar) and add 1/2 tsp. of glycerin to water.

Step 5. Coat the inside of the lid of jar with household adhesive and screw onto jar.

Step 6. Turn jar upside down with the lid on the counter - this will keep the glue from dripping. Set aside and let dry thoroughly.

Step 7. Shake and enjoy! Glitter Penguin For the glittered penguin, paint the wood block and wood doll head with Mod Podge and cover with glitter. Glue snow globe onto glittered wood base and the doll head to top.

Finish off by wrapping chenille stems around seam of wood and globe as shown. Feather Penguin For the feather penguin, glue snow globe into candle stand.

Wrap feather boa around seem of stand and snow globe. Glue in place.

Paint the wood doll head with Mod Podge and cover with glitter. Shake off excess. Glue to top.

Santa For Santa, Paint the clay pot bottom and wood doll head with Mod Podge and cover with glitter. Shake off excess. Glue to doll head to top and the snow globe to the upside-down clay pot holder as shown.

Apply Snowtex as desired or as shown.
