Laurence Lovejoy was convicted of killing 16-year-old Erin Justice in March of 2004. She accused him of sexually abusing her.
Police say Lovejoy poisoned, stabbed and drowned Justice in Aurora where she lived with her mother.
Prosecutors say Lovejoy was trying to keep her from testifying against him in court.
