Man seriously hurt in downtown stabbing; 1 in custody: CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A suspect has been charged with stabbing and seriously injuring a man in the Loop on Thursday night, Chicago police said on Saturday.

Police said the attack happened near State and Randolph streets around 9:15 p.m.

A 26-year-old man approached a group of males outside and began arguing with them, police said.

Police said 36-year-old Alejandro Tellez took out a sharp object and stabbed the 25-year-old in the back.

The victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital in serious condition.

Police took Tellez into custody. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder and aggravated battery.
