A license plate reader system is being mounted to the trunk deck of state police cruisers. The devices are linked to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles database.
The LPR can scan up to 1,800 license plates a minute. It allows officers to determine if the vehicle's owner has a suspended or revoked license or if the car is registered to a person with a history of traffic violations.
