Quinn attends Bridgeview Ramadan celebration

August 19, 2012 (BRIDGEVIEW, Ill.)

The month-long observance of Ramadan includes fasting each day from sunrise through sunset.

Sunday's celebration included the traditional feast to end the fast.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation at the celebration which protects students from penalty for missing class or exams in order to observe a religion holiday.

The governor also called for peace and tolerance in the wake of the recent mass-shooting at a Wisconsin Sikh temple, gunfire at a Morton Grove mosque and vandalism at an Evergreen Park Muslim gravesite.
