Middle school bans balls in recess

October 9, 2013 (NEW YORK)

The rules at the long island school now ban the use of any kind of hard balls, rough games including tag and even cartwheels, unless a coach is present.

That's because of a rash of playground injuries. During recess, the students seldom use helmets or pads and may be more likely to get hurt.

The school superintendent says the children have gotten concussions, scrapes and bumps during recess.
