Mayor Rahm Emanuel and CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett announced the plans Thursday.
The school will open in the fall of 2017 with a freshman class of 300. It will ultimately enroll 1,200 students.
The new school will be built on Chicago Park District property near Skinner North Classical School on the Near North Side.
