The bad news is that the company falsely advertised health benefits to the shoes, according to a class action lawsuit.
The good news is that people who purchased the shoes could receive a partial refund.
Runner's World reports that Vibram has settled a $3.75 million class action lawsuit. Vibram advertised that the its flexible, rubber shoes could strengthen muscles and improve alignment in those who wore them. Critics say there is no scientific research to support the claims, and they may instead do more harm than good.
Vibram must pay a maximum of $94 per pair to its customers, but most should expect to receive between $20 and $50, based on similar cases.
As part of the lawsuit, Vibram must create the website www.fivefingerssettlement.com with information from the agreement. The company must also advertise the settlement on several websites, including Facebook and Runner's World.
