NEW YORK -- Police are searching for a man in a wheelchair who allegedly robbed a bank in Queens Monday.
The incident happened at the Santander Bank on Broadway near 37th Street in the early afternoon.
Authorities say the man robbed the bank and then fled the scene towards Long Island City.
He was caught on surveillance camera, which authorities are hoping will provide them with some leads.
People in the neighborhood were shocked.
"It's a little surprising," one area resident said. "I thought it was a joke at first until when I overheard all the police officers coming in, I realized it was something serious."
No injuries were reported, and no wheelchairs were found abandoned in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
