CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police shot a man after he allegedly pointed a gun at them and attempted to escape down an alleyway in the city's Austin neighborhood, officials said.
Officers heard shots fired and saw a car speeding away in the 5000-block of West Monroe Street around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. The passenger allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the officers after they attempted to pursue the vehicle, officials said. Officers jumped out of their vehicle and fired shots at the man, after which the man ran down an alleyway and allegedly pointed the gun at officers a second time, police said.
The man was eventually captured and taken into custody. He suffered one gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, but is expected to recover. No officers were injured during the incident.
