BENSENVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- An 86-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in Bensenville, police said.

Modesta De La Rosa was allegedly struck by a Ford pickup truck in the 1000-block of West Irving Park Road around 7:30 a.m. Friday, police said. The truck was making a right turn from a Dunkin' Donuts when it struck De La Rosa, who was walking west on the sidewalk in front of the truck, police said.

The vehicle did not stop and continued on Irving Park Road, police said.

"I saw the woman lying on the street over there, there was a lot of people who stopped, got out of their car to help, calling the police," said Vanessa Garcia, a Dunkin' Donuts employee.

De La Rosa was pronounced dead a short time later at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

Family members say she was a mother of 12 and a grandmother of dozens of grandchildren. She lived just one block from where she was killed.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Bensenville police at 630-350-3455.
