CHICAGO (WLS) -- Bernie Stone, who represented Chicago's 50th Ward for nearly four decades, will be remembered by friends and family at his funeral in Skokie on Tuesday.
Stone died early Monday morning at age 87. He suffered complications from pneumonia and kidney failure after a fall on Saturday, one of his daughters said.
"He was the most honest, most wonderful, caring loving giving man. He lived for his community," said Ilana Feketitsch, Stone's daughter. "He was loved by so many people. The outpouring has been wonderful. He gave everything to people. They should just give back to him the way he did to everybody."
The former alderman was an outspoken voice in Chicago's City Council for 38 years. Stone ran for an 11th term in office in 2011, but lost to Alderman Debra Silverstein. He lived in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood.
His funeral is scheduled for noon on Tuesday.
