MCHENRY COUNTY (WLS) -- There is a stunning twist in one of the most notorious cases in the history of McHenry County.

The conviction of Mario Casciaro in the killing of 17-year old Brian Carrick has been thrown out.

Casciaro and Carrick were co-workers at a Johnsburg grocery store in 2002 when Carrick disappeared. His body was never found.

The Second District Appellate Court ruled today that prosecutors failed to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
