MAYWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- Governor-elect Bruce Rauner attended a church service Sunday in the west suburbs with his wife Diana, as they joined the congregation at Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood.

The governor-elect thanked the people for their votes and in a brief speech, Rauner also vowed to serve the citizens of Illinois.

"We want the Chicago area to be the greatest city in the world for every family in the Chicago area," he said. "We want Illinois to be the greatest state in the greatest nation on Earth for every family. We want world-class schools in every community."

After church, the Rauners headed to Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood for a sweet treat, making a stop at Neuvo Leon Bakery on the 1600-block of West 18th Street.

The governor-elect picked up some pastries to take home.

Along with raising the minimum wage to $10 an hour, Rauner said he plans to work with the General Assembly in Springfield to overhaul the entire tax code early in his administration.
