Rauner reaches out to female voters, attacks Quinn DCFS program

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Republican candidate for Illinois governor Bruce Rauner reached out to female voters when he hosted a "Women for Rauner" coffee event Tuesday morning at the Hotel Indigo Chicago.

Talking to reporters afterward Rauner leveled accusations of cronyism and corruption at the Department of Children and Family Services. He says that had deadly results.

"We've learned there have been 95 deaths under the supervision of DCFS under (Governor Pat) Quinn's admin vulnerable children for abuse and neglect 95 deaths more than have been reported in the past," he said.

In response, a spokesperson for Governor Quinn called the accusation "a false and malicious attempt to smear the governor." She goes on to say that "to imply the governor is somehow responsible for the deaths of children... is despicable and a new low."
