HILLSIDE, Ill. (WLS) -- One student is in custody after a bullet found at a west suburban high school prompted a precautionary lockdown Wednesday afternoon.
The bullet was discovered on the floor of the cafeteria at Proviso West High School in Hillside and police Wednesday evening are investigating how that bullet got there.
The bullet was discovered by a school security officer on the floor of the cafeteria at Proviso West High School in Hillside. Police were called and the school was on lockdown until late Tuesday afternoon.
"Shortly after 2 o'clock, we were notified by the school that they found a round of ammunition, so we initiated a precautionary lockdown," said Sgt. Laith Ibrahim, Hillside Police Department. "During the subsequent investigation, we did take a student into custody and we found some more ammunition."
The 15-year-old male student faces charges for possession of ammunition without a FOID card, police said.
