CHICAGO (WLS) -- A mural honoring the role one Chicago school played in the civil rights movement was dedicated on Thursday.
It covers the walls at Burnside Scholastic Academy on the South Side.
In January 1962, Burnside students took part in a sit in calling for an end to school segregation. The event was organized by some mothers from the PTA.
Several of those former students attended today's dedication.
Some say the decision by parents and students to take a stand sparked the civil rights movement in Chicago.
