INVERNESS, Ill. (WLS) -- A gay former church worker can move ahead with his discrimination suit against the Chicago Roman Catholic Archdiocese.

A federal judge rejected the archdiocese's motion to dismiss the charges.

Colin Collette was music director at Holy Family Church in Inverness.

The church let him go in 2014 after he announced his plans to marry his same-sex partner.

Colette's lawsuit claims his dismissal violated federal, state and county laws.
