CHICAGO (WLS) -- A swim ban was in effect at Chicago's beaches much of Tuesday due to the recent heavy rains and flooding.

Officials said the water quality was bad after the Chicago and Wilmette locks were opened. All lakefront beaches were closed for swimming Tuesday morning. As of Tuesday evening, all had been cleared, although a swim advisory was in effect for Osterman Beach, Lane Beach and Foster Beach, according to the Chicago Park District beach website.
