CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza announced Monday that the city is changing to a new year-round sales calendar for Chicago city stickers. The change ends 100 years of the summer sticker sales.
"Imagine 1.3 million people coming down in one month to purchase their vehicle stickers," Mendoza said. "There's no way to do this in a pleasant way. So we want to eliminate the long lines, the headaches involved with being in compliance with the wheel tax."
The system is similar to how the Secretary of State's office runs license plate renewals. After this season drivers will be assigned a new renewal month spread out throughout the entire year.
