CHICAGO (WLS) -- The investigation into the discovery of a child's remains in a park on the City's West Side now includes significant body parts.
The search began Saturday night with the discovery of a foot and intensified around the Garfield Park lagoon Sunday.
Sources say police found the child's head Sunday. Police are now officially calling it a death investigation and are asking locals to stay away from the search area.
Families headed to Garfield Park Sunday were turned away by police.
Part of the park is a crime scene after a child's foot was found floating in the water. For Chicago police, the discovery launched a massive investigation, as dozens of officers sectioned off the open space with tape, creating a command center by the water.
All day Sunday police were searching through the lagoon, lining up and then walking inch by inch to make sure they didn't miss any part of the mud below.
Sources say a child's head was discovered, but investigators will not reveal if they have any leads, as far as who the child is or how the body ended up there.
Police have suspended the search Sunday night.
