City to repave 125 additional miles of Chicago neighborhood streets

CHICAGO (WLS) -- As winter winds down, city road crews will turn their attention to fixing Chicago streets.

The mayor's office said in addition to the city's annual goal of repaving at least 300 miles of Chicago roads each year, it will repave 125 extra miles of neighborhood streets in 2015.

The work is also part of a strategy to replace aging water lines. Some are more than 100 years old.

Since 2011, crews have repaved more than 1,000 miles of roads. That's nearly a quarter of Chicago's streets.
