Officials: 3 stabbed at Cook County Jail

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Officials say three inmates were stabbed and one correctional officer was injured at Cook County Jail Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the stabbing occurred around 3:45 p.m. Two inmates were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and one was taken Stroger Hospital, all in serious condition.

Officials say a fight broke out between in the general population tier of maximum security Division 9 between two inmates. Others joined the fight, officials said, including one with a pen or other writing instrument which was used to stab the three inmates. Correctional staff broke up the fight, and one officer used pepper spray.

The correctional officer was sent to the hospital for minor injuries caused by exposure to the pepper spray, officials said. The incident is currently under investigation.
