CHICAGO -- Chicago Public Schools confirm the district mistakenly released student information to five outside companies that were submitting proposals to do work for CPS.

The data included names, addresses and student ID numbers of 4,000 children.

According to CPS, the breach did not include student social security numbers.

Once the breach was discovered, the companies were told to immediately destroy the information.
