CHICAGO (WLS) -- CTA trains are operating at full service on the elevated tracks after a derailment caused major delays in the Loop.
Investigators said the front two wheels of an Orange Line train came off the tracks Tuesday night.
The train kept going, sending dozens of steel rail clips and other debris raining down on Van Buren Street below. The train eventually stopped at LaSalle Street.
No injuries were reported.
Joseph Williams was sitting in his car when a steel spike and chunks of wood landed on his hood. Williams considers it lucky that neither he nor his wife were hurt.
"See all of that? It fell and it bounced. That could have hit me. It could have hit my sunroof," Williams said. "That's heavy. That's not a little piece of wood. That's steel."
Trains only ran on the outer tracks Tuesday night, causing delays as CTA crews replaced the steel clips. Workers finished repairs around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
