CHICAGO -- A body recovered from Lake Michigan early Wednesday has been identified as a man who fell out of a sailboat about a mile offshore on Saturday.
The body of 56-year-old Daniel Brown was discovered by a boater floating in the lake "some distance from shore" about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Brown, of the 5600 block of North Campbell, fell from a sailboat about 6:45 p.m. Saturday between Montrose and Diversey, police said previously. People aboard the sailing vessel "Three's Company" said Brown fell off the bow when a railing broke.
The five other people on the boat said they saw him resurface once, then lost sight of him as they tried to toss him a life ring, authorities said. They said Brown, who was last seen wearing khaki shorts and a grey T-shirt, was not wearing a life jacket.
According to the Coast Guard, "Three's Company" was "disabled" and was towed to Belmont Harbor.
