New DHL Global Forwarding facility opens at O'Hare

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A new DHL Global Forwarding facility opens at O'Hare International Airport Friday.

Crews broke ground on the project just over a year ago.

At 450,000 square feet, the $32-million facility will serve as DHL's largest air gateway for exports.

The state-of-the-art facility, along with additional cargo investments currently underway at O'Hare, will allow for Chicago to provide the most square footage for cargo operations of any gateway airport in North America, according to the City of Chicago.

The facility will house 500 Chicago employees, with DHL adding 75 employees to its workforce in the coming years.
