FRANKFURT, Germany (WLS) -- An Air Canada flight was diverted - to save a dog's life.

The heating system in the plane's cargo area, where Simba the dog was, malfunctioned, officials say. The pilot worried that as the plane flew over the Atlantic, the temperature would drop below freezing.

So the pilot decided to land the plane in Frankfurt, Germany, so that Simba could be moved to another plane with a heating system that worked.

The dog and his owner were reunited in Toronto. Most passengers seemed to support the pilot's decision.
