Piiza delivery driver critical after shooting
A Dominos Pizza delivery driver was wounded critically when police say he was ambushed by three men in Dolton.

DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Domino's Pizza is offering a $5,000 reward after someone shot and critically injured a delivery driver from a store in Dolton.

Police believe the driver was ambushed when making a delivery, by three men who jumped out of a bush and opened fire Saturday night near 141st and Indiana.

"They called and ordered a pizza to a place that was abandoned, or no one was home," said Det. Darryl Hope.

The delivery driver was shot in once in the hand and twice in the back, causing critical injuries. Domino's Pizza says the driver is in a lot of pain, but recovering.

"Our drivers are only allowed to take up to $20 on their deliveries, that's why we find it senseless that these kind of things happen," said store owner Reece Arroyave. "We got pizza and twenty bucks on us, and for someone to think it's worthwhile to rob a pizza delivery driver, doesn't make sense."

"We're presently investigating other pizza delivery robberies in the area to see if there's anything related," said Deputy Chief Abraham Martinez.

On Tuesday, concerned community members fanned out in the Dolton neighborhood where the shooting happened. They passed out fliers hoping to encourage people to help police.

"We know they're very afraid," said community activist Andrew Holmes, "but we're asking them not to be afraid of these individuals."

Residents of the neighborhood say crime has gotten so bad, they are afraid to come and go.

"I can hear gunshots as early as, like, now, late at night when I'm trying to sleep, when I'm doing my homework, said Tiffany Smith, who lives near the crime scene. "It's just, it's incessant."
