Another toy has joined the survivor's ranks -- Monday is the 40th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube.

Google has a cube doodle on its home page that you can try to solve online.

The toy was invented in 1974 by Hungarian architect Erno Rubik. It was actually created while he was trying to create a working model to help explain three-dimensional geometry.

It was so difficult that it took him well over a month to solve his own puzzle.

According to the puzzle's website, there are 43 quintillion ways to scramble a Rubik's Cube. That's 43 followed by 18 zeroes.
