Downers Grove Dr. Edward J. McMenamin faces 17 child porn charges

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- Bond was set at $500,000 for Dr. Edward J. McMenamin after police say they found numerous images and videos of child porn on his computer.

McMenamin, 67, of Downers Grove, faces five felony counts of dissemination and twelve felony charges of possession of child pornography. He was taken into custody on May 29 after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led Downers Grove police to begin their investigation a year ago.

McMenamin had been practicing with Advocate Medical Group in Downers Grove for 30 years. The group said they have suspended his ability to practice, and that they are totally cooperating with authorities.

ABC7 visited McMenamin's former home, where his son still lives. McMenamin's son said that his parents are divorced, and that he was unaware of the charges and allegations brought against McMenamin, and that they must be a mistake.

McMenamin is next scheduled to appear in court July 7.
