Six Flags Great America in Gurnee celebrates 39th anniversary

GURNEE, Ill. (WLS) -- Six Flags Great America is celebrating a special day - it was on this day in 1976 the theme park in Gurnee opened its doors.

Since then, Six Flags has welcomed more than 100 million people.

With more than 80 rides and attractions, Six Flags Great America is one of the largest theme parks in the country.

The theme park has lots of birthday events planned throughout the summer, including fireworks starting next month and double rides on select attractions through August.
