CENTER TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and another was injured after a single-car crash Saturday in northwest Indiana.

At 5:54 p.m., officers responded to a crash with injuries in rural Center Township on CR 600 West just north of Division Road, according to a statement from Porter County sheriff's office. They arrived minutes later and found a 2014 Jeep Wrangler had crashed into a tree.

The 16-year-old boy was a passenger and died upon impact, police said.

The driver, another 16-year-old boy, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, police said. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Porter Regional Hospital.

Both boys were from Center Township, Indiana. Their names have not been released, police said.

CR 600 W between Division Road and CR 50 North will be closed for an unspecified length of time while Indiana State Police reconstruct the accident, police said.
