MAYWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A hit-and-run victim's family is speaking out about a possible punishment for the suspect.
Jeffery Schultz, 40, was hit and killed in Forest Park while riding his bicycle on June 1, 2014. Joel Mendoza was charged with hit and run.
At a hearing Tuesday, the victim's family says they heard Mendoza might get a lighter sentence and not serve any time in prison.
"The thing that bothers me so much is that there's a possibility that Joel Mendoza could be left out to do community service, which is fine, but I don't want to see him doing community service until he has time to sit in jail and ponder," said Ron Schultz, victim's father.
Joel Mendoza is scheduled to be sentenced on April 17.
