GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (WLS) -- A 19-year-old was killed and his girlfriend remains hospitalized with injuries after a fight during a high school graduation party Saturday night in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, officials said.

Officials have not identified the victims. Friends of the young man said he was from Aurora. While the graduation party was for students who graduated from Glenbard West High School, he was not a recent graduate, friends said.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is investigating and would not comment about a motive or whether they have someone in custody.

Relatives of the party host and other party-goers said the alleged attacker was a high school student who many of them know.

"It was calm, everybody was just dancing and listening to music and then a fight broke out," said Joe Lucki, 18, who was at the party. "It was just too much."

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a home on Prairie Avenue in DuPage County.

"It was something that was supposed to be good turned really bad," said the woman who threw the party for her son. She did not want to be identified.

At least 60 youth attended the backyard celebration. The woman said it was her 19-year-old sister and her sister's boyfriend who were stabbed by another teenage party-goer. The attack happened as the party was ending and the victims were trying to back their car out of the driveway, she said.

"He just walked up, opened the door, punched her and stabbed her," the woman said. "She did not know she was stabbed. The boyfriend came out to protect her or defend her and the other boy stabbed him up pretty bad."

Carolyn Lorenz, Lucki's mother, said the incident has left a community devastated.

"It's so sad, it's so sad," Lorenz said. "I don't know why kids have to behave that way. It's really sad."

Investigators spent several hours interviewing party-goers. Officials have also declined to comment about whether a weapon has been recovered.
