HOUSTON, Texas -- As funeral arrangements near for family members who died in a van on flood-swollen Greens Bayou, we're learning new details about their relatives.
We now know the elderly man who died, Manual Saldivar, is cousins with Tejano singer Selena's dad.
The family told Eyewitness News that Abraham Quintanilla called today to offer his condolences, and offered to help any way that he can.
Manuel and his wife Belia will be laid to rest on Saturday.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home-Resurrection Garden, at 13747 Eastex Freeway, in Houston.
The family said they are not disclosing the funeral location for the four children who died during the flash flood emergency.
The bodies of Devy Saldivar, 16; Dominic Saldivar, 14; Xavier Saldivar, 8; and Daisy Saldivar, 6, in addition to their great-grandparents, were found inside the van last Wednesday.
Ric Saldivar is the great-uncle of the four children. He told ABC13 the family encouraged his brother Sammy to get the family out after the water began to rise around their home.
The family had just made their way over a bridge when the vehicle was caught in the swollen bayou. Sammy was behind the wheel when he lost control of the vehicle.
Sammy was able to escape the van and grab hold of a tree branch. But the van quickly became submerged in the floodwaters.
A Gofundme account created to help support the family has raised thousands of dollars.
