Officials: CTA rider grazed by bullet on 47th Street bus
A passenger was grazed by a bullet on a 47th Street bus after an accidental gun discharge, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 47-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet on the no. 47 bus around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday morning near 47th Street and Kostner Avenue, Chicago police say.

The victim was a passenger on the bus and didn't notice an unattended gun sitting on the seats in front of her. She was riding the bus with her neighbor, who reportedly picked up the gun thinking it wasn't real. That's when the gun discharged, ricocheting off the floor and grazing the victim's hip.

Jocelyn Castrejon, whose father is the victim's neighbor and the man who picked up the gun, told ABC7 that her father didn't intend to hurt the passenger.

"Right now, [the victim] said there was like a throbbing pain in her leg," said Castrejon, "and it's because since the bullet hit the ground, it kinda went around the seat and hit her in the leg but my dad didn't do it intentionally. He thought it was a toy."

The victim limped away from the bus and refused medical treatment. Police sources say the gun was a .22 caliber pistol.

Police are now searching for the gun's owner.
