CHICAGO (WLS) -- West Side residents and community leaders held an emergency town hall meeting Saturday to discuss the recent rise in gun violence.

The community-wide gun violence summit was hosted by Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin.

"My hope is to get these communities declared endangered communities, and with that designation will come resources to help stabilize these communities," said Boykin,

Residents and city leaders are trying to come up with solutions.

So far this year, there are more than 300 shooting deaths in Chicago.
