Police issue warning on Hyde Park armed robberies

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police have issued a warning about armed robberies in Hyde Park.

The robberies happened in early December in the 1700 block of East 54th Street and 55th Street. According to police, victims were approached on foot by an offender who displayed a blue steel handgun and demanded property.

Police believe the offender is a black 14 or 15-year-old male. They urge residents to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity. Police suggest remaining calm if confronted by an assailant. They also urge residents never to pursue a fleeing assailant.

Instead, try to remember any unique physical characteristics and provide information to police.
