SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Illinois Secretary of State's Office announced Wednesday that the will resume mailing vehicle emissions notices. The mailings had been suspended due to the state budget impasse.

Officials say their contractor has agreed to print and mail the notices at no additional cost to the state. Mailings will resume on April 6, 2016 and will be retroactive to the first motorists who did not receive a test notice after the impasse forced the shutdown.

The new emission test notices will be mailed on a postcard-sized form.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that with the resumption of test notices his office will resume regular vehicle registration procedures on June 1, 2016.
