A new statewide safety initiative aims to tell drivers to move over for any vehicle stopped on the side of the road.
Drivers are encouraged to take the "Give them Distance" pledge, even making a short video and posting it online, by the Illinois State Police, Illinois Department of Transportation and other safety officials.
The pledge is basically to obey Scott's Law, known as the "Move Over" law, which requires drivers to move over to give emergency personnel and first responders safe room to work on the side of the road.
Last year, the law was expanded to include disabled motorists or any stopped vehicles with flashing lights on the side of the road.
The initiative's goal is to get 1 million people to take the pledge.
Safety officials believe with more awareness, road fatalities will decrease. Over the past two years, there have been more than 1,000 traffic deaths on Illinois roads.
Make a video and post on Roz Varon's Facebook page and ABC7 may play it on-air.
