NORTHBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- The family of an Illinois State Police trooper who was killed on the job hopes a new tribute in his honor will remind people to drive safely.
A sign will hang above the Willow Road overpass on the Tri-State Tollway in Des Plaines, not far from the spot where Trooper James Sauter was killed by a truck driver in 2013.
The truck driver admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel and was charged with violating several commercial trucking regulations.
In 2014, a judge approved a $10.9 million settlement for Sauter's widow.
